I Can’t Quit You, Medium

I’ve always been a quitter. But Medium changed that.

When I first discovered Medium, it scared me. So many people, pouring their hearts out through their fingers and making money off of their hard work. Could I ever be one of those people?

Reading the stories of those like Brian Rowe and Shaunta Grimes, who put hard work into Medium and have had success reaching lots of readers, has served to lift me up and help me believe that it’s possible for me to succeed as well.

There’s just one problem: I’m a habitual quitter.

It’s not something I’m proud of. I’m a very good starter, an okay middler, but a terrible finisher.

It’s always been an issue of mine — even during cross country races in high school, I’d slow down way before the end of the race, knowing that if I pushed myself hard enough I’d likely pass out on the finish line.

I suppose it stems from feeling inadequate. Like if I never put my full effort into anything, I can’t actually succeed or fail at it.

It’s been the same with my books. I’ve only written two novels in my two decades of writing, and that’s because I’ve only finished two of them.

If I’d finished all of the books I’d started writing, I’d probably be one of the most…
