Trying to focus.

Woke up to a revision email this morning from a client, so I spent the better part of my first two hours trying to get down to work on it. No such luck.

One problem I’m running into is that I’m finding it incredibly hard to focus. I’ve always had this issue. It’s annoying because it only happens when I’m bored or uninterested — not when my mind is being challenged in positive ways. So I can’t usually force myself to work.

I’ve also been dealing with some emotional troubles. The events of the last week have weighed heavy on my heart and I can’t seem to get it off of my mind. That, combined with my lack of work focus, is driving me insane.

But I managed to buckle down and get through it. With the help of caffeine, of course. I was intending to quit, but it got me through this morning. Perhaps its a placebo effect, but something about a warm beverage always put me in the mood to read or write.

I’m starting to parse out what writing jobs work well for me and what don’t. I thought, going into this, that I’d be able to do pretty much any kind of writing work, especially what I studied in college.

That is not so — I may have most of these skills but it’s easier for me to see now where my actual strengths lie. In the…
